A Grand Day Out - Scarborough

Week 2 of the summer holidays - skint, so we're tapping into that "staycation" trend..... but determined to get to the seaside at least twice we caught a train (ok, 3 trains) to Scarborough for the day on a blazing hot gorgeous blue sky day, armed with sun-block, a tiny beach towel for the paddling, memories of a lovely week spent there 4 years ago, and 2 pairs of very hard-working feet!

(Now, reading that sentence back, who would ever guess I get paid to make teenagers use full-stops???)

Good old Scarborough, bloomin marvellous! Who needs all that agro of catching plains and packing cases? Blighty is a much better option. Looks like you did a lot. Did you go and see the Chuckle Brothers...go on...fess up!

Weeeeell, Lizzie, we tried desperately to find time for the Chuckle Brothers, but it just wasn't to be;) I've dragged my kids to loads of lovely places in Britain - they just moan that everyone at school goes abroad and feel left out. Hope the sense of vintage and nostalgia blooms in them when they grow up... though the 13 year old really likes going round "looking at things" (but not in actual galleries) and taking photos, so he's definitely got my genes! xx

Hee hee Kitty - that fab Aussie weather and those beaches - I can but dream, eh! xx

Oh Claire, I'm not even going to ask how you might know about Ken Dodd's dressing room that smells of fish - but I look forward to reading about it on your blog soon! xx

Sweet little donkeys! The bill at that theatre sounds like the stuff of nightmares! x

The donkeys are just gorgeous aren't they Tallulah - I think they get worked too hard though; horrible British tradition. I'm going to go mad one day and have goats, cows and donkeys... and more cats! xx

Vix, that bill looks very "traditional" and oh-so-retro doesn't it - hideous combination! I'm intrigued that Claire's announced that Ken Dodd's dressing room stinks of fish - I need to know more! xx

We had a great week's holiday in Scarborough a few years back, the kids loved it, and actually, so did I! Lovely photos, a real slice of the British seaside.
PS. Doddy and fish? What's the story, Clare??? xx

I just finished an English degree but nothing will stop me writing sentences that last far too long without a punctuation mark in sight.

Reading your post made me so homesick and nostalgic. I spent many happy summers in Scarborough before we moved to NZ. I loved the donkey rides and walking along the beach, the Grand and looking up at the castle ruins.
